How We Handle Appliances

Refrigerators and AC units contain refrigerants that require certified handling at disposal. These units go to area recycling facilities equipped for proper processing when facilities have capacity, not dropped at a general landfill.

Do you disconnect appliances before removing them?
We can assist with basic disconnection for standard electric appliances. Gas line disconnections and situations involving dedicated plumbing lines should be handled by a qualified technician before we arrive. Do you recycle appliances?
Yes, where accepted. Refrigerators, washers, dryers, and most large appliances contain steel, copper, and other metals that are recyclable at certified facilities. We route appliances to area recycling facilities where those materials can be properly processed. They are not simply hauled to a landfill. Responsible disposal is part of how Martin's has operated since 2018.
Can you remove a refrigerator with food still in it?
We ask that refrigerators and freezers be emptied before pickup when possible. Food significantly adds to weight and creates complications at the disposal facility. If emptying is not possible due to the situation, call us ahead of time at (503) 964-4886. Martin will talk through the specifics and let you know if and how we can accommodate it.
Can you carry appliances out from basements or upper floors?
Yes. Large appliance stair carry-outs, including refrigerators and washers from basement laundry rooms, are something we handle regularly. We bring the right equipment for heavy items on stairs and take the time to do it safely without damaging floors or walls. Stair carry-outs are included in the standard on-site quote, no extra charge.
How is appliance removal priced?
Appliance removal is priced per job, based on the items and what the work involves. Single large appliance pickups are usually quick to quote because the space is easy to estimate. Martin gives you a firm on-site price before we touch anything, and there is no obligation if the number does not work for you.
How fast can you pick up an appliance?
Same-day pickup is available Monday through Friday, 9am to 6pm, when the schedule allows. Appliance jobs are usually single stops and fit well into the daily schedule, so availability is often good. Call (503) 964-4886 in the morning and Martin will tell you honestly whether we can get there today and give you a time window.
